Parent and Community Involvement

Connells Point Public School parents are interested in and supportive of school activities. The community is encouraged to be involved in and contribute to various aspects of school life.

The school offers the following opportunities for parents to become involved in:

*       School Council

This group comprises three elected parents, three elected staff members, the Principal, P&C President and an appointed community representative and is involved in the management of the school. Meetings are held at least five times a year or when the need arises. All parents are welcome to attend although council members only have voting rights.

*       P & C Association (K - 6)

Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Meetings offer opportunities to discuss issues brought up by parent school council members; to gain information about school programs and curriculum through talks by visiting speakers and staff; and to coordinate fund raising. This group also is the governing body for the Canteen and the Uniform Shop.

*       Canteen

The canteen is managed by a paid canteen co-ordinator and staffed by parent volunteers. It aims to provide healthy and nutritious snacks and lunches at reasonable cost to students. It depends on parent volunteers to ensure this service can continue. Profits are donated to the P&C for distribution to the school.

*       Uniform Shop

This shop is operated on a voluntary basis and provides all uniform needs for children K-6.   The shop is open for the first few days of Term 1, but generally operates every Friday morning from 9a.m. to 9.45a.m. However, orders can be left at the school office. Profits from this shop contribute to P & C           fundraising.

*       Voluntary Contributions

In this scheme families are asked to contribute once a year for essential school equipment not provided by the Department of Education and Training.     .

*       Class Support

Interested parents and grandparents, who have time available, are welcome to assist the classroom teachers with oral reading, craft, music, literature, sport and other curriculum areas. Children appreciate the extra support within the school. Regular invitations for classroom help are issued in the school newsletter.

*       School Functions

The attendance of parents is always appreciated at school functions, such as

Education Week, Music Festivals, Band Recitals, Sporting Carnivals, Concerts, etc
